Site Reliability Engineer – Quantum Computing (f/m/d)

Location: On-site in Hamburg or Siegen, Germany; relocation to either location is required.

hirify.global develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology, combining laser-cooled ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields.

What you will do

• Improve the reliability, stability, scalability, and operability of software powering trapped-ion quantum computers.
• Contribute to the reliability of the quantum control and quantum program execution stack.
• Define and refine SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, operational guardrails, monitoring, and observability across software, infrastructure, and hardware-adjacent layers.
• Participate in incident response, post-mortems, root cause analyses, and operational risk mitigation.
• Drive automation, maintain runbooks and documentation, and reduce operational toil.
• Support CI/CD, release processes, safe deployments, and production-ready system design in collaboration with software, firmware, physics, and hardware teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–4 years of professional experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
• Experience operating and stabilizing complex systems in production or laboratory environments.
• Hands-on experience with containerized and orchestrated environments, monitoring, alerting, observability, and incident response.
• Strong technical documentation skills and the ability to reason through engineering trade-offs.
• Fluent written and spoken English; the role requires relocation to and on-site work in Siegen or Hamburg, Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience with hardware-adjacent, laboratory, cyber-physical, scientific, research, or experimental systems.
• Strong Python skills for automation and tooling.
• Experience with long-running, stateful workloads and familiarity with firmware, control systems, or real-time constraints.
• Experience with programmatic device control using SCPI, serial, USB, or TCP/IP.
• Exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains.
