Physician Coding Auditor (Healthcare)

Location: Remote - Nationwide, United States; may require 20–40% travel and onsite work at client, temporary, or corporate office locations as business needs require.

Salary: $57,400–$99,000 annually, based on experience.

What you will do

• Audit inpatient and outpatient accounts, conduct performance and quality assurance reviews, and support external audits.
• Assess educational needs for coding staff and providers and develop training programs, presentations, handbooks, and coding materials.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and technical resource for professional fee coding across multiple medical specialties.
• Support coding edits, denials, appeals, coding work holds, and the implementation of effective coding systems and procedures.
• Coordinate professional seminars, webinars, audio conferences, educational materials, and staff education records.
• Prepare audit findings, compliance risk reports, and other reports for coding management, leadership, coders, and providers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of coding experience and 3+ years of auditing experience.
• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• At least one current professional certification is required: CPC, CCS-P, CCS, CMPA, RHIA, or RHIT.
• Experience with multiple EMR systems, encoders, and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, medical and surgical terminology, and professional coding standards; strict confidentiality is required.
• Effective written and verbal English communication, strong organization, and consistent quality and productivity.

Nice to have

• CPC, CPMA, or CCS certification preferred.
• Openness to using AI and emerging technology to improve processes and patient and client experiences.
