Applied Scientist (AI & Machine Learning)

Location: London or New York; New York requires a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office

Base salary: $175,000–$200,000 or £90,000–£120,000, plus a 20–25% annual bonus

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of AI and machine learning solutions using large language models, generative AI, and agentic AI.
• Build production-ready AI solutions from concept through deployment and monitoring.
• Apply advanced analytics, experimentation, statistical modelling, prompt engineering, and retrieval augmented generation.
• Establish practices for model evaluation, testing, validation, responsible AI, governance, and explainability.
• Partner with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver scalable AI solutions and communicate technical recommendations.
• Mentor data scientists through technical leadership, code reviews, and coaching.

Requirements

• Extensive experience developing AI and machine learning solutions in production environments.
• Strong expertise in large language models, generative AI, retrieval augmented generation, prompt engineering, and agentic AI.
• Excellent Python skills and experience with modern AI and data science frameworks.
• Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and mathematical modelling.
• Experience designing AI evaluation frameworks covering model performance and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, MLflow, Spark, or similar cloud-based data platforms, plus knowledge of responsible AI and model governance.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI agent frameworks and orchestration tools.
• Insurance or financial services experience.
• Postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
