Senior Staff Engineer, Modelling and Simulation (R4924)

Location: On-site in Melbourne, Australia. The role requires eligibility to obtain an Australian NV1 security clearance and to view ITAR and Australian export-controlled information.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of distributed real-time simulation systems across virtual, constructive, and live environments.
• Architect and implement high-performance C++ software for modelling, simulation, system integration, and interoperability with legacy standards.
• Develop multi-agent, high-fidelity, real-time and distributed simulation environments for autonomy and systems engineering teams.
• Integrate defence simulation frameworks such as AFSIM and NGTS.
• Design containerised simulation deployments with Docker and Kubernetes for development, CI, testing, and operations.
• Provide technical and project leadership to teams of five or more contributors across software, autonomy, perception, testing, and program functions.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Extensive professional experience in software engineering and systems integration.
• Strong experience with modern and legacy C++ standards, plus professional Python experience.
• Hands-on experience with real-time distributed simulation or HWIL/SWIL environments.
• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and with Linux development environments.
• Ability to obtain an Australian NV1 security clearance and eligibility to access ITAR and Australian export-controlled information.

Nice to have

• Defence industry experience.
• Experience with uncrewed systems, especially in the air domain.
• Experience with AFSIM, NGTS, or similar defence simulation environments.
• Experience with data processing, analysis pipelines, or Python-based test automation.
