Reinforcement Learning and Adaptive Controls Expert (m/f/d) (AI)

Location: Maia, Portugal; remote work option available. Occasional travel up to 25% is required.

What you will do

• Develop advanced control methods using reinforcement learning, model predictive control, and optimization for industrial automation systems.
• Design, develop, and validate machine-control software in simulation, software-in-the-loop, and real-time environments.
• Integrate control, learning, and machine-vision models into software for reliable simulation-to-real-world deployment.
• Research reinforcement learning, adaptive control, machine vision, and sim-to-real transfer technologies.
• Collaborate with teams across machine control, system architecture, robotics, and mechatronics.
• Support testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of Physical AI applications for industrial automation and material handling.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, control engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in reinforcement learning, model predictive control, machine vision, intelligent control systems, or related areas.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, and programming skills in Python and C++.
• Experience with simulation platforms such as Nvidia Isaac Sim/Lab, MuJoCo, Unity, or similar tools.
• Understanding of control software architectures, optimization algorithms, and real-time machine interfaces.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, and willingness to travel occasionally up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Linux, Git, and Docker.
