TL;DR
Senior RF Design Engineer II (RF Communications/Aerospace): Designing and developing RF products, including radios for space systems, with an accent on RF analysis, product requirements, prototyping, and space-grade hardware. Focus on simulating and testing RF communications systems, developing PCB-based products, supporting production automation, and resolving customer and program anomalies.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements, and candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance. U.S. employment authorization is also subject to ITAR requirements.

Base salary: $145,000–$210,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Define and maintain requirements for new RF products, including the Frontier-Lite Radio.
  • Design, simulate, prototype, and support production of RF products, including component selection, PCB layout, fabrication, and packaging.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, ground support equipment, and production automation.
  • Create product documentation such as interface control documents and user manuals.
  • Coordinate with test and manufacturing engineers during new product introduction.
  • Review customer and program requirements, support engineering reviews, and troubleshoot technical anomalies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, RF communications, or another engineering discipline, plus 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Fundamental RF knowledge, including cascaded device analysis, link budget analysis, and HFSS.
  • Experience developing and delivering RF products from requirements assessment and engineering prototypes through space-qualified production.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of RF communications, navigation systems, and related components.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI clearance are required.
  • For U.S. roles, candidates must meet applicable ITAR work-authorization requirements.

Nice to have

  • Space-grade board design, parts selection, and performance simulation experience.
  • Circuit analysis experience, including worst-case, reliability, FMECA, thermal, and derating analyses.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and testing RF communications systems for launch vehicles or satellites.
  • Experience leading complex engineering programs, people management, incident investigations, conflict resolution, or project management.
