Senior Applications Engineer (Embedded Firmware)

Location: Burlington, Ontario, Canada; domestic and international travel approximately once per quarter may be required.

Salary: $102,000–$125,000 base salary.

What you will do

• Design and develop reliable firmware for in-house test equipment, lab infrastructure, and measurement workflows.
• Lead applications engineering for the CopperEdge on-board copper product portfolio, defining test strategies and validating host and module configurations.
• Perform signal integrity characterization and compliance testing using S-parameters, link budget analysis, VNAs, oscilloscopes, and bit error rate testers.
• Support customer design-ins, qualification testing, product demonstrations, root-cause analysis, and design optimization.
• Plan NPI workstreams, estimate timelines, manage risks, and coordinate hardware, applications, software, FAE, sales, and customer stakeholders.
• Create application notes, test reports, design guides, and other technical collateral while representing products at conferences, tradeshows, and interoperability events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 8 years of relevant industry experience in signal integrity, optical transceivers, active copper cables, or high-speed host system qualification.
• Hands-on experience developing embedded firmware for optical modules, copper cable assemblies, test equipment, lab automation platforms, or custom measurement infrastructure.
• Strong practical knowledge of signal integrity, PAM4, TxFIR, receiver equalization, RF measurements, S-parameter analysis, and high-speed PCB design.
• Experience with Python scripting for equipment control, automation, and data analysis, plus working knowledge of Ethernet standards and data center networking architectures.
• Ability to independently lead application workstreams, solve complex technical and customer problems, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with Arista CLI, Open Network Linux, or other networking hardware operating systems.
• Contributions to inventions, technical advances, conference presentations, or white papers.
• Master’s degree or equivalent advanced education.
