Principal Software Engineer - Search Infra - Elasticsearch (Search AI)

Salary: $159,800–$252,800 USD base salary annually; $191,900–$303,500 USD annually in select locations including Seattle, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City Metro Area.

What you will do

• Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of hirify.globalsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
• Provide technical vision and direction for indexing, retrieval, query execution, and relevance infrastructure.
• Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
• Shape the long-term technical roadmap with partner and product teams.
• Mentor experienced engineers and guide projects from technical design through completion.
• Act as a subject-matter expert across key hirify.globalsearch domains and improve them through hands-on engineering.

Requirements

• Experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure, distributed systems, and large-scale search platforms.
• Hands-on experience with hirify.globalsearch, Lucene, Solr, or comparable distributed storage engines.
• Strong core Java skills, including advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, lambdas, and algorithm optimization.
• Experience defining technical vision and roadmaps for core search or retrieval systems across teams and organizations.
• Experience mentoring expert engineers and providing technical and professional guidance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, autonomy, and experience collaborating in distributed teams.

Nice to have

• Previous contributions to open-source projects.
• Familiarity with different source-control workflows and continuous integration.
