Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform Connectivity (AI)

Location: London, UK or San Francisco, CA. Staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. Preference is given to candidates based in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Bay Area.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate the MCP proxy and OAuth and token management systems behind external tool calls.
• Own reliability for critical connectivity infrastructure, including SLOs, on-call operations, incident response, and postmortems.
• Build enterprise admin controls and permission models for governing agent capabilities.
• Contribute to the MCP specification, its ecosystem, and the official Python and TypeScript SDKs.
• Scope complex multi-month projects, make architectural decisions, and align partner teams across the organization.
• Partner with research teams to productize advanced AI capabilities and validate platform solutions in products.

Requirements

• Experience as a backend or platform engineer.
• Experience operating production distributed systems at scale, including reliability, observability, and incident response.
• Ability to take ownership from system design through implementation, deployment, operations, and iteration.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, make independent technical decisions, and work across teams and time zones.
• Excellent communication and consensus-building skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in a relevant field.

• Familiarity with using AI tools as part of software development.
• Experience contributing to product-focused platform solutions.
