Location: Newport News, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule with on-site attendance required 4 days per week and 1 remote day. Local candidates are required and may need to cover another facility within a 30-minute driving range.

Pay range: $19.00–$20.00 per hour, depending on experience.

What you will do

  • Process release-of-information requests by retrieving, scanning, and returning patient medical records.
  • Validate authorizations and requests in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform quality checks for accuracy, confidentiality, billing, and timely record release.
  • Respond to requests received by mail, telephone, fax, online submission tools, or email.
  • Order paper records from storage vendors, scan them upon arrival, and coordinate their timely return.
  • Provide responsive customer service while maintaining orderly work areas, equipment, and records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to use fax machines, copiers, and scanning equipment.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Must be local to Newport News, VA and able to attend the hospital facility on-site 4 days per week.
