Junior Software Engineer - Consumer Team (Kotlin)

Location: Remote or hybrid, within supported regions and a GMT+2 compatible timezone. Remote work is 100% from home; offices are available in Berlin, Madrid, London, and Paris.

What you will do

• Own the software development lifecycle, from requirements refinement and concept creation through implementation, testing, and long-term maintenance.
• Develop and ship backend features and RESTful API endpoints using Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot.
• Maintain web applications and develop smaller frontend features using TypeScript and React.
• Integrate AI coding agents into development workflows, including prompting, reviewing, and validating generated output.
• Write clean, well-tested code with strong test coverage and contribute to reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Pair with engineers, participate in design discussions, support production incidents, and contribute to agile meetings and retrospectives.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Solid foundation in Java or Kotlin microservices development with Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Experience using AI development tools and explaining how AI-generated code is prompted, reviewed, and validated.
• Understanding of production software challenges, including reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Strong English communication skills and availability within a GMT+2 compatible timezone.

Nice to have

• Experience in a product-based company.
• Frontend experience with TypeScript and React.
• Familiarity with gRPC, OAuth 2.0, Gradle, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes or Docker.
