Mechanical Engineer (IoT Hardware)

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; on-site and office-first. The role includes approximately 10% travel to suppliers in China and Thailand.

What you will do

• Develop robust electro-mechanical products from concept through production.
• Design highly reliable hardware for harsh agricultural environments.
• Design, conduct, and document verification and validation tests.
• Validate production processes for high-volume manufacturing.
• Collaborate with external suppliers in China and Thailand to optimize designs and manufacturing processes.
• Spend time on farms with farmers, ranchers, and animals to support ergonomic product design.

Requirements

• Experience developing robust products, ideally in automotive, agricultural, or military applications.
• Experience with injection molding, contract manufacturing, and tool commissioning.
• Good understanding of injection molding processes and common production issues.
• Experience applying design for manufacture and design for assembly to parts and assemblies.
• High ownership, accountability, problem-solving ability, and strong execution.
• Availability to work from the Auckland office and travel to suppliers in China and Thailand for approximately 10% of the year.
