Tax Support Associate (Payroll Tax)

Location: Remote within the United States, or hybrid/onsite in New York City or San Francisco.

Annual compensation: $77,500–$87,500 in NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle; $65,875–$75,875 for remote U.S. employees. Equity is offered.

What you will do

• Own tax notice issues end to end across federal, state, and local agencies.
• Manage a portfolio of tax agencies, including notices, filings, tax accounts, timelines, and escalations.
• Communicate directly with payroll partners and translate complex agency interactions into clear updates.
• Contact agencies through portals, email, and phone to resolve tax issues.
• Identify patterns across notices that may indicate systemic issues and communicate them internally.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of experience in payroll tax, tax operations, compliance, or notice resolution.
• Meaningful experience with agency communication and operational or filing work.
• Experience with federal agencies such as the IRS and SSA, as well as state and local agencies.
• Clear, professional written and verbal communication, including comfort speaking with tax agencies by phone.
• Organized and methodical approach to managing multiple open issues through completion.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; hirify.global participates in E-Verify.
