TL;DR
Senior or Principal Turbomachinery Engineer (subsea geothermal power): Designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating high-performance turbines and pumps for modular subsea geothermal power plants with an accent on aero-thermal design, CFD, structural FEA, and high-speed rotating hardware. Focus on taking turbomachinery from 1D sizing through production testing, correlating analytical models with experimental data, and developing robust field-ready assemblies for subsea deployments.

Location: Seattle, WA; on-site

Salary: $175,000–$275,000 per year plus equity

Company

hirify.global is a pre-revenue startup developing modular subsea geothermal power plants that convert ocean-floor thermal resources into baseload power.

What you will do

  • Lead the aero-thermal design and optimization of high-performance turbines and pumps for compact power-generation cycles.
  • Use 1D and 2D modeling tools for rapid sizing, trade studies, and system-level integration.
  • Perform high-fidelity 3D CFD and structural FEA to assess performance and reliability.
  • Lead test campaigns, correlate analytical models with experimental data, and identify failure modes.
  • Integrate rotors, housings, bearings, and seals into robust, field-ready assemblies for subsea deployments.
  • Develop internal modeling processes, design standards, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; a Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and testing high-speed rotating machinery such as pumps, compressors, or turbines.
  • Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Siemens NX and rapid prototyping.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on startup environment.
  • On-site work in Seattle, Washington.

Nice to have

  • Experience with turbomachinery design tools such as AxStream or CFTurbo.
  • Proficiency with CFD and numerical simulation tools including ANSYS CFX/Fluent, OpenFOAM, or Numeca.
  • Experience with supercritical CO2 or organic Rankine cycle turbomachinery.
  • Knowledge of high-pressure seal design and rotor dynamics.
  • Experience operating high-speed rotating-equipment test rigs and programming in Python, MATLAB, or C++.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with competitive base salary, meaningful equity, and health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible PTO and 12 paid company holidays.
  • Opportunities to participate in sea trials, deployment operations, and fieldwork at oceanic sites including the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores.
  • Hands-on work across high-power electronics, marine systems, and clean energy technology.
  • Company-sponsored recreational dive certification, access to a company boat, free meals, and snacks.
