Sensor Modeling & Simulation Engineer (M&S) (RF/Radar/EW): Building deterministic sensor and electronic-warfare models for an autonomous collaborative platform with an accent on RF/radar sensing, multi-sensor fusion, sensor physics, and synthetic imagery. Focus on implementing real-time Rust/C++ simulation, modeling contested-spectrum effects, integrating external simulation capabilities, and bridging simulation fidelity with real-world autonomy systems.

Location: On-site in Ottawa or Toronto, Canada

hirify.global builds an Autonomous Collaborative Platform and sovereign Canadian defence capabilities for the Canadian Armed Forces and allied autonomy programs.

What you will do

  • Build and tune active-radar and imaging-radar models for long-range air-to-air and air-to-surface scenarios.
  • Model electronic warfare capabilities, including passive interception, emitter classification, jamming, deception, counter-countermeasures, and decoys.
  • Develop multi-sensor fusion and the estimation and track-management systems behind a unified tracked world picture.
  • Model cameras, EO/IR, LiDAR, and radar at multiple fidelity levels, from fast approximations to high-fidelity synthetic imagery.
  • Implement real-time, accelerated-time, and reproducible simulation systems in Rust and/or C++.
  • Integrate third-party engines, renderers, libraries, and synthetic-imagery capabilities while collaborating with autonomy teams.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional systems programming in C++ and/or Rust.
  • Hands-on Rust experience or readiness to work primarily in Rust.
  • Strong understanding of performance, memory, concurrency, and deterministic behaviour.
  • Understanding of sensor physics, including cameras, LiDAR, radar, and EO/IR, and how to model them accurately.
  • Depth in RF/radar modelling, electronic warfare, or multi-sensor fusion, with comfort in link and detection budgets, estimation, and tracking mathematics.
  • Ability to work on-site in Ottawa or Toronto, Canada.

Nice to have

  • Sensor modelling and simulation experience in aerospace or defence, especially radar, EW, EO/IR, fusion, beyond-visual-range, or air-to-air modelling.
  • Expertise in jamming and deception, ESM/ELINT, ECCM, IMM/PDA tracking, or TDOA/FDOA geolocation.
  • Experience with synthetic-data or RL training pipelines and integrations using gRPC, DDS, ZeroMQ, or Zenoh.
  • Experience with game engines or flight-dynamics simulation, including Unreal, DCS, or X-Plane.
  • Defence experience is not required.
