TL;DR
Lead Optics Engineer (Quantum Computing): Designing and validating optical subassemblies for quantum computers with an accent on laser characterization, optical metrology, precision alignment, and opto-mechanical integration. Focus on leading optical engineering teams, integrating high-precision systems, developing test and characterization procedures, and transitioning new optical technologies into production.

Location: On-site in Broomfield, Colorado, United States. Travel up to 25%. Candidates must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. contractual requirements and must not be a People's Republic of China or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.

Salary: $164,000–$205,000 annually, inclusive of bonus target.

What you will do

  • Lead optical engineers developing commercial and research subsystems for quantum computing.
  • Design, integrate, align, characterize, validate, and maintain high-precision optical and laser systems.
  • Translate project requirements into prioritized action plans and deliver tasks on schedule.
  • Support research and development, prototype builds, new product introduction, sustaining engineering, and production readiness.
  • Develop and document optical test plans, characterization procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with optical, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers and scientists to transition optical technologies into production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience using and maintaining optical, opto-mechanical, and/or laser systems.
  • Experience with optical system design and integration, laser characterization, optical metrology, precision alignment, and opto-mechanical assembly.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and technically guiding engineers.
  • Knowledge of optical and electrical laboratory equipment, laser systems, fiber optic components, modulators, and precision optical instrumentation.
  • Experience creating engineering documentation, test reports, SOPs, engineering change records, and configuration management records.

Nice to have

  • Master's or Ph.D. in optics, physics, applied physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with diode, fiber, and/or Ti:Sapphire laser characterization, stabilization, and servicing.
  • Experience with Zemax and SolidWorks/CAD for optical and opto-mechanical design.
  • Experience with optical test data analysis, including plotting, fitting, and interpretation.
