TL;DR
Software Engineering Intern - Production Automation (Aerospace): Developing and supporting software applications for functional testing of spacecraft components, launch-vehicle systems, and production processes with an accent on production automation, testing, and stakeholder collaboration. Focus on implementing bug fixes and features, writing unit tests, integrating computerized production systems, and deploying and documenting operational software.

hirify.global develops rockets, spacecraft, launch systems, and critical space subsystems, including Electron and Neutron launch vehicles.

What you will do

  • Support avionics production acceptance testing, vehicle component acceptance testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Support the integration of computerized production systems and software applications used in manufacturing environments.
  • Develop software and unit tests under supervision in response to bug fixes and feature requests.
  • Manage source-code commits, refine backlog items, maintain tickets, and participate in stand-ups, planning, and retrospectives.
  • Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to investigate issues, understand requirements, and demonstrate software.
  • Deploy operational software, support and train users, and document software products and architecture designs.

Requirements

  • Currently studying toward a tertiary diploma, certificate, or degree in software, electrical, or mechatronics engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field of knowledge.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to help.
  • Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation.
  • For New Zealand roles, nationality checks and background checks are required before an employment offer; access to regulated equipment and data is subject to ITAR eligibility.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Comfort working in a Linux development environment.
  • Interest in embedded systems and basic electronics.
  • Previous internship or project experience in software development or automation.
