TL;DR
Cryogenic Systems Engineer (Cryogenic Cooling Systems): Developing compact mK cryocooler systems from concept through design, assembly, testing, certification, and customer delivery with an accent on thermodynamic and gas-flow modelling, sub-4K cryostat integration, and helium-based cooling cycles. Focus on integrating Joule-Thomson turbocompressor systems, analysing thermal performance, and validating vacuum, instrumentation, and temperature-control subsystems.

What you will do

  • Develop thermodynamic and gas-flow concepts for cryogenic cooling systems using He-4 and He-3 cycles.
  • Simulate cooling cycles, gas flows, thermal performance, and overall system behaviour.
  • Define cryogenic component concepts and requirements with CAD and mechanical engineering teams.
  • Support the design and integration of Joule-Thomson cryogenic turbocompressor systems operating at 4K and 30K stages.
  • Oversee manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing of cryogenic systems and subsystems.
  • Support certification and delivery of cryocooler systems to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in cryogenic system design.
  • Experience designing sub-4K cryostats and integrating low-temperature systems.
  • Experience with GM, pulse tube, and/or Joule-Thomson cryocoolers.
  • Knowledge of the He-4/He-3 phase diagram, cryogenic cooling cycles, CFD and/or thermal modelling.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems, including basic 3D CAD for component design.
  • Practical understanding of vacuum systems, helium systems, assembly methodologies, temperature control, sensors, and cryogenic instrumentation, plus strong multidisciplinary communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with turbo pumps and/or cryogenic turbocompressor design.
  • Experience with CTE analysis and cooling cycle design.
  • Experience supporting certification of complex technical equipment.
