AI Software Engineer II (Government Technology)

Location: Remote, with periodic travel to hirify.global HQ in Austin, Texas as projects require

Salary: $126,400–$180,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and build agentic AI systems that automate complex, multi-step workflows across the software platform.
• Develop LLM-powered features and products using foundation models and APIs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
• Architect multi-agent pipelines, tool-use systems, function-calling workflows, and Model Context Protocol integrations.
• Build RAG systems covering document ingestion, chunking, embeddings, and vector retrieval.
• Own the full lifecycle of AI features, from prototyping and evaluation through deployment and iteration.
• Collaborate with technical and domain teams, identify automation opportunities, and mentor engineers on agentic AI practices.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend or full-stack foundation.
• Production experience building and shipping products using LLMs and agentic frameworks.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python.
• Strong understanding of prompt engineering, context management, LLM reasoning patterns, tool use, function calling, and agent orchestration.
• Ability to design structured evaluations to measure and improve AI system performance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with MCP server development, vector databases, fine-tuning, RLHF, or model evaluation pipelines.
• Knowledge of ML fundamentals such as embeddings, transformers, and attention mechanisms.
• Experience with code generation agents, structured output generation, or LLM-based data extraction.
• Familiarity with AWS and serverless infrastructure for AI workloads.
• Experience in government, defense, regulated environments, or the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
