Senior Thermal Engineer, Research & Development

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; on-site. Travel of up to 20% may be required to support customer projects.

What you will do

• Lead applications development projects involving mechanical design, thermal engineering, and mechanical systems for Silicon Valley customers.
• Develop thermal management solutions such as thermal interface materials, heat spreaders, encapsulants, and advanced composite systems.
• Drive customer solutions from concept through commercialization and connect local opportunities with the broader R&D organization.
• Collaborate with local subject-matter experts and cross-functional teams to solve complex materials and electronics challenges.
• Represent hirify.global at industry consortia and conferences, and deliver technical training and seminars.
• Mentor junior engineers and support their technical and professional development.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
• 2–3 years of directly applicable engineering experience with thermal materials and thermal management technologies.
• Expertise in thermal interface materials, gap fillers, phase-change materials, dielectric materials, or thermally conductive composites for electronics.
• Experience with thermal design, characterization, reliability testing, process development, heat transfer, thermal modeling, and structure–property relationships in conductive materials.
• Proficiency with thermal and thermomechanical modeling tools such as Ansys, COMSOL, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, plus thermal characterization methods and equipment.
• Strong analytical, communication, customer engagement, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills; familiarity with Agile or Stage-Gate practices and JEDEC, IPC, or ASTM standards.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related field and 3+ years of directly applicable experience.
• Experience with Silicon Valley companies or thermal applications in consumer electronics, aerospace and defense, automotive, robotics, telecommunications, or data centers.
• Professional society or conference activity, patent or publication history, or award-winning R&D contributions.
• Strong project management, planning, prioritization, presentation, and leadership experience.
