  • Define thermal designs, finishes, coatings, conductive paths, requirements, component limits, power profiles, and mission thermal cases.
  • Generate and run thermal models to simulate heat transfer and thermal management.
  • Write procedures and perform thermal balance and thermal vacuum tests to validate models and verify system designs.
  • Define and control thermal interfaces while coordinating with mechanical, electrical, communications, propulsion, government, contractor, and mission partner teams.
  • Develop schedules, manage thermal work products and procurements, communicate design trades, and present milestone reviews and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or a similar technical engineering field.
  • Detailed understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer as applied to space environments.
  • Working knowledge of Thermal Desktop or similar thermal analysis tools.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Windchill, and translating models for thermal analysis.
  • Experience with thermal cycling, thermal balance, and thermal vacuum testing.
  • Ability to pass a federal background check and work at NASA Ames Research Center in California.

Nice to have

  • At least three years of related thermal, mechanical, aerospace, or similar engineering experience.
  • NASA or industry spaceflight experience.
  • Knowledge of Low Earth Orbit, cislunar, and deep-space environments.
  • Experience with cryocoolers and Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Customer relationship management experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time position supporting aerospace missions and technology demonstrations.
  • Work with project managers, scientists, engineers, technical staff, government personnel, contractors, and mission partners.
  • Some travel may be required to support mission and project partners.
