What you will do

  • Support weld shop development for full-scale welded aircraft assemblies.
  • Develop, optimize, and qualify laser beam, gas tungsten arc, resistance, gas metal arc, and plasma arc welding processes.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, materials, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs and manufacturing consistency.
  • Plan welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and non-destructive evaluation results.
  • Support manufacturing engineers and welders with correct welding techniques and standardized practices.
  • Investigate new welding technologies and implement process controls that improve rate, quality, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience with welded assemblies.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed to maintain build schedules.
  • Ability to perform physical work including standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, working in confined spaces, and climbing.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export control regulations or be eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in welding engineering or a related technical program.
  • Hands-on welding experience with stainless steel, nickel-based, titanium, copper, and aluminum alloys.
  • Experience with brazing, joining, metallographic interpretation, and tooling design for welded assemblies.
  • Knowledge of weld strength testing standards, data acquisition systems, thermocouples, and strain gauges.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, fractography, metallography, hardness testing, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing.
