Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas or the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia area preferred; fully remote candidates considered case by case. Up to 25% travel is required, including occasional on-site work at customer locations.

What you will do

• Scope, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot AI solutions in customer production environments.
• Design and deploy agentic workflows for multi-step reasoning, tool use, and production decision-making.
• Debug and optimize data pipelines, model inference, and AI systems running on customer networks.
• Translate ambiguous customer requirements into well-scoped technical solutions.
• Work across the stack, from model inference on consumer hardware to infrastructure automation.
• Read hardware schematics and logs, identify performance bottlenecks, advise enterprise clients, and provide feedback to internal product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of combined software engineering and machine learning experience.
• Active US Security clearance required.
• Proven experience deploying and maintaining machine learning or AI systems in production.
• Strong expertise with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, or JAX.
• Experience debugging systems involving data pipelines, model inference, and hardware interaction.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to turn vague requirements into actionable plans.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying models on edge devices or consumer hardware.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, DevOps tooling, and performance tuning.
• Customer-facing engineering experience and full-stack application development skills.
• Knowledge of privacy-preserving AI and secure compute environments.
• Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
