Tech Lead, Mobile Core Network Engineering

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Annual base salary: CAD $113,400–$162,000 for Intermediate, CAD $158,000–$207,000 for Senior, or CAD $200,400–$248,000 for Staff.

What you will do

• Own the health, performance, capacity planning, and evolution of the AWS-hosted mobile core, including HSS, PGW, PCRF, and related network functions.
• Act as the primary technical interface with the mobile core vendor and carrier partners, reviewing architecture, deliverables, SLAs, upgrades, and production rollout plans.
• Design and deliver AI-driven operational tooling for performance analysis, automated diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship across the Telecom Engineering pod, with a growth path into people leadership.
• Participate in on-call incident response, lead troubleshooting and post-mortems, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
• Coordinate network priorities across product, engineering, operations, vendors, and partners while contributing to the long-term core network roadmap.

Requirements

• 7+ years operating highly available production infrastructure in the cloud, preferably AWS.
• Background in site reliability, infrastructure, platform, or network engineering.
• Strong networking and production troubleshooting skills, including routing, DNS, load balancing, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Experience managing external vendors and deliverables, leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams, and owning production incident response.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience and experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Comfort participating in an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Experience with Go, Python, or similar scripting languages.
• Experience with carrier, telecom, networking, or mobile infrastructure.
