TL;DR
Fuel Quality Assurance Engineer (Nuclear Fuel): Leading quality assurance and quality control for TRISO-X fuel research and development projects with an accent on ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, NRC requirements, audits, and supplier oversight. Focus on developing the TRISO-X Quality Management System, resolving complex quality problems, improving corrective actions, and ensuring compliance across fuel qualification and supply chain activities.

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States. Onsite, 5 days a week in the office, with up to 10% travel as needed. Standard schedule: 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday.

Salary: $100,000–$135,000 annually for Level III.

What you will do

  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the TRISO-X Quality Management System in an R&D environment.
  • Develop operational quality control processes, tests, sampling plans, inspections, and equipment qualification activities.
  • Prepare and maintain quality assurance plans, procedures, documents, and records.
  • Plan and conduct internal quality surveillances, audits, and supplier audits.
  • Review audit findings and nonconformances, track corrective action requests, and drive process improvements.
  • Promote safety and quality culture, deliver quality training, and advise project leadership on complex quality decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or related field from an ABET-accredited college or university; relevant non-STEM education may be considered with applicable experience and training.
  • Typically 5–9 years of relevant Quality Assurance experience for Level III, or approximately 10 years for Level IV.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance, nuclear manufacturing requirements, industry codes, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR Part 21, 10 CFR Part 70, and 10 CFR Part 71 is strongly desired.
  • Ability to work independently, lead initiatives, communicate with technical and management personnel, and apply detailed concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a nuclear laboratory, fuel manufacturing, or nuclear safety-related production environment.
