TL;DR
Principal Data Scientist (Biomedical ML): Developing signal-processing algorithms and machine learning systems that transform optical interference signals into continuous measurements of cerebral blood flow, intracranial pressure, and autoregulation with an accent on physiological data, model validation, and clinical evidence. Focus on designing complex algorithms, defining evaluation frameworks, building governed datasets, and preparing technical work for regulatory submissions.

Location: London, UK; at least 4 days per week from the Kings Cross offices, plus one flexible work-from-home day

Salary: £136K–£190K annually, plus equity

What you will do

  • Set the technical direction for signal processing and machine learning model development on hirify.global One.
  • Lead novel algorithm design, validation, and evidence generation for regulatory submissions.
  • Review technical work across the data science team and establish standards for methodological rigour, reproducibility, and scientific integrity.
  • Design data collection, ground-truth definition, labelling, dataset governance, and benchmarking strategies with Clinical teams.
  • Contribute to technical papers, patent applications, and regulatory documents.
  • Represent data science in architecture reviews, cross-functional forums, and external scientific and clinical engagements.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied research.
  • Deep expertise in time-series signal processing and physiological or biomedical machine learning.
  • Hands-on experience developing and validating models on noisy, real-world physiological data.
  • Experience taking algorithmic research through to production-quality, validated implementation.
  • Experience in a regulated industry such as medical devices, diagnostics, or pharma, with familiarity with software-as-a-medical-device validation and documentation.
  • Strong scientific output, including publications, patents, or equivalent original technical contributions.

Nice to have

  • Background in neuroscience, neuromonitoring, neurophotonics, or cerebrovascular physiology.
  • Experience with optical signal processing, such as LiDAR, pulse oximetry, NIRS, or laser Doppler flowmetry.
  • Familiarity with FDA regulatory pathways for AI/ML-based medical devices.
