TL;DR
RF Test Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and operating system-level RF test infrastructure for spacecraft S-band TT&C and X-band payload communications systems with an accent on RF architecture, performance verification, and environmental test campaigns. Focus on automating measurements, debugging hardware from board to system level, and validating communications hardware in flight-like conditions.

Location: Los Angeles, with in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Salary: $128,000–$177,000 annual base salary, excluding additional benefits.

Company

hirify.global manufactures satellite buses at scale using software, vertically integrated hardware, and manufacturing-focused spacecraft platforms for customers in earth observation, communications, and other space applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute system-level RF test strategies for spacecraft communications hardware and payloads.
  • Design RF test architectures and signal-chain configurations for transmitter and receiver characterization, including loopback, end-to-end, and over-the-air setups.
  • Lead RF performance verification across development, qualification, and production hardware.
  • Support spacecraft integration and environmental campaigns, including thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, vibration, EMI/EMC, and full vehicle integration testing.
  • Debug anomalies with RF, avionics, software, AIT, and systems engineering teams, identifying root causes and driving hardware improvements.
  • Build automated test scripts, data-collection tools, calibration methods, procedures, and scalable RF verification infrastructure.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline; an M.S. is preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on RF test engineering experience, including aerospace, satellite, or communications hardware.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, transmitter and receiver architectures, modulation schemes, link-level testing, and RF verification methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with vector signal analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, noise figure analyzers, and related RF laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with automated test software, scripting, or RF test infrastructure; Python is preferred.
  • Experience with hardware bring-up, integration, troubleshooting down to the board, subsystem, or interface level, environmental testing, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft communications, TT&C architectures, or payload RF systems.
  • Familiarity with GEVS, MIL-STD, ECSS, CCSDS, or EMI/EMC testing standards.
  • Experience with channel emulators, anechoic chamber testing, over-the-air RF validation, or spacecraft-level qualification campaigns.
  • Familiarity with production test scaling, automated validation systems, or high-rate hardware manufacturing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity participation and a fast-growing startup environment.
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, plus $100,000 life insurance.
  • Paid time off starting at 15 vacation days, growing to 20+ days annually, plus 10 paid holidays.
  • 401(k) with matching contributions, eight weeks of paid parental leave, and childcare reimbursement of up to $350 per day for work-related travel.
  • In-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office, catered lunch, equipment for an individualized desk setup, and regular employee community events.
