Forward Deployed AI Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, Boston, or New York; remote work available in the U.S. only. Requires 20–40% travel at peak times.

Salary: $200K–$350K plus equity.

What you will do

• Translate scientific and operational requirements into delivery roadmaps from discovery through production deployment.
• Embed with pharma and biotech R&D teams to understand workflows and identify high-impact applications for AI agents.
• Design, implement, and iterate on production-ready integrations, owning features from architecture through rollout.
• Troubleshoot and debug systems in real time while ensuring reliability, adoption, and successful deployment.
• Build relationships with scientists, research leaders, executives, and engineering teams as the primary technical AI contact.
• Capture customer needs and product gaps, and collaborate with Applied AI, engineering, GTM, and account teams to shape solutions and engagements.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production-grade software.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript, with strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-powered or agentic AI systems, including prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, model evaluation, and orchestration frameworks.
• Ability to reason about system architecture, debug infrastructure-level issues, and write clean production code independently.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, relationship-building, and end-to-end ownership skills.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, pharma, biotech, or scientific R&D.
• Familiarity with regulated data environments such as GxP, HIPAA, or 21 CFR Part 11.
• Background as a technical founder, forward-deployed engineer, or management consultant.
• Science degree or research experience alongside engineering skills.
