Head of Fraud Operations (Fintech)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, United States

Annual starting salary: $170,000–$230,000 plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build, manage, and develop a team of fraud analysts and investigators, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
• Own manual review operations for onboarding and account-level events, including queue management, SLA adherence, analyst playbooks, audits, calibration, and quality metrics.
• Lead investigations involving complex fraud patterns, fraud rings, account takeover events, synthetic identities, and high-loss incidents.
• Define investigation methodologies, documentation standards, escalation paths, SOPs, decision frameworks, and operational KPIs.
• Identify automation and tooling opportunities and partner with Product, Engineering, vendors, Customer Operations, Compliance, and Legal.
• Maintain SAR filing readiness and ensure fraud investigation practices align with BSA/AML obligations.

Requirements

• 7–12 years of experience in fraud operations, fraud investigations, or a related function at a financial institution, fintech, or payments company.
• 3+ years of people management experience building and developing high-performing fraud operations teams.
• Hands-on expertise in manual review operations, queue management, case adjudication, SLA design, and analyst tooling.
• Strong experience leading complex fraud investigations involving account takeover, fraud rings, synthetic identities, or high-loss events.
• Experience creating scalable SOPs and playbooks, plus strong SQL skills for monitoring performance and identifying trends.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proactive, bias-to-action approach.
