Reference Data Engineer (Fintech)

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java backend services and data pipelines.
• Ingest, process, normalize, and integrate reference data from vendors, APIs, and internal platforms.
• Implement automated data quality controls, validation frameworks, reconciliation processes, and canonical datasets.
• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot incidents, and improve system reliability through root-cause resolution.
• Design relational database schemas and data models while optimizing query performance.
• Build observable data platforms with logging, alerting, monitoring, lineage, governance, auditing, version control, and schema evolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6–11 years of software engineering experience with strong Java backend development expertise.
• Experience building and supporting enterprise-scale data processing systems and pipelines.
• Experience integrating third-party data vendors, APIs, and external data services.
• Strong knowledge of JSON, XML, CSV, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including schema design, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Experience with data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, testing, code quality, CI/CD, and operational ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience with Clojure and functional programming.
• Knowledge of financial reference data, including instrument identifiers, market codes, legal entities, and counterparty data.
• Experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and data integration patterns.
• Experience building highly available and resilient data platforms in regulated environments, including regulatory, risk, or capital markets workflows.
