TL;DR
Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Localization (Visual Odometry) (Autonomous Vehicles/Computer Vision): Building precise, real-time camera-based vehicle localization and Visual Odometry pipelines for Level 4 autonomous driving with an accent on visual-inertial odometry, sensor fusion, and production C++ software. Focus on designing robust pose estimation, integrating camera, IMU, GPS, and mapping systems, and solving reliability and performance challenges across diverse environments and embedded compute platforms.

Location: Onsite 5 days per week at the Santa Clara, CA office

Salary: $170,000–$260,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and develop real-time Visual Odometry pipelines using monocular, stereo, or RGB-D cameras.
  • Implement camera-based localization algorithms, including visual-inertial odometry, feature tracking, motion estimation, and scale recovery.
  • Fuse camera data with IMU, GPS, lidar, and other sensors to improve pose estimation accuracy and stability.
  • Integrate localization with mapping, perception, control, and the broader autonomous vehicle software stack.
  • Develop and optimize production-quality modern C++ software for real-time embedded compute platforms.
  • Analyze performance in varied environmental conditions, contribute to architecture and code reviews, and mentor team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics, computer vision, or autonomy, including 3+ years specifically in Visual Odometry or VIO.
  • Experience developing, testing, or deploying autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Expert proficiency in C++ and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong knowledge of epipolar geometry, camera calibration, bundle adjustment, and optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with VO/SLAM libraries such as ORB-SLAM, VINS-Fusion, or OpenVINS, plus ROS/ROS2, Linux, and version control systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with lidar or map-based localization, GPU acceleration using CUDA/OpenCV/OpenGL, sensor calibration, time synchronization, and data preprocessing.
  • Experience handling environmental variability, sensor degradation, and compute limitations in production deployments.
  • Open-source contributions or publications in VO, VIO, or SLAM.
