Senior or Executive Medical Director (Oncology)

Location: Onsite at the San Diego Headquarters, United States

Salary: $270,000–$338,000 for Senior Director or $293,000–$367,000 for Executive Director, annually.

What you will do

• Lead clinical and medical strategy for early-stage oncology programs from IND-enabling activities through Phase 1 and early proof-of-concept.
• Author and drive clinical components of IND submissions, including protocols, investigator brochures, and regulatory documents.
• Design first-in-human and early-phase oncology trials, including dose escalation, dose optimization, biomarker plans, and eligibility criteria.
• Provide medical monitoring and safety oversight, including review of emerging data and dose decisions.
• Partner with translational science and AI/ML platform teams on patient selection, pharmacodynamic endpoints, and data-driven development hypotheses.
• Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, CMC, Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, and Program Management while representing programs to investigators, key opinion leaders, governance groups, and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• M.D. or D.O. or international equivalent; board eligibility or certification in hematology/oncology or medical oncology is strongly preferred.
• PharmD candidates with relevant oncology and clinical experience may be considered.
• Meaningful biotech or pharmaceutical drug-development experience: approximately 5+ years for Senior Medical Director scope or 8–10+ years for Executive Medical Director scope.
• Hands-on experience authoring and executing IND submissions.
• Direct experience designing and running Phase 1 or early-phase oncology clinical trials.
• Strong knowledge of oncology drug development, GCP, ICH guidelines, and the global regulatory environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with small-molecule oncology programs and targeted therapies.
• Experience progressing a program from candidate nomination or IND through clinical proof-of-concept.
• Experience presenting to health authorities or supporting business-development due diligence.
• Comfort working in a data-rich, technology-forward environment with computational and platform teams.
