Shift Process Engineer (Semiconductor Manufacturing)

Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. Onsite shift-based role supporting 24x7 manufacturing operations with rotating 12-hour shifts: 2 days, 2 nights, and 4 days off.

What you will do

• Provide shift-based process engineering support across semiconductor fabrication and backend manufacturing operations.
• Act as the engineering contact for Manufacturing, troubleshooting process, product, and equipment issues and coordinating recovery or escalation.
• Monitor process and product performance using SPC, MES, and manufacturing data systems, responding to abnormal or out-of-control conditions.
• Investigate manufacturing excursions using structured problem solving and root-cause analysis, implementing containment, recovery, and corrective actions.
• Improve process capability, yield, quality, throughput, cycle time, and cost, while supporting process and product qualification and NPI.
• Prepare technical documentation, mentor Manufacturing personnel, and ensure compliance with process controls, quality requirements, cleanroom practices, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, or equivalent industrial experience in Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience within semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics, or another advanced manufacturing environment.
• Practical or technical knowledge of one or more semiconductor manufacturing technologies, including lithography, etching, thin-film deposition, metallisation, or backend wafer processing.
• Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and structured root-cause-analysis methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret process, equipment, and product data and prioritise manufacturing issues.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communication between Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
• Competent use of Microsoft Office, manufacturing execution systems, and relevant data-analysis applications.
• Strong attention to detail, dependability, flexibility, good attendance, timekeeping, punctuality, and the ability to work under pressure and support the required shift pattern.

Nice to have

• Experience in wafer mounting, thinning, back grinding, chemical mechanical polishing, polishing, cleaving, and dicing.
• Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacturing.
