TL;DR
Supplier Quality and Development Engineer (Marine Energy): Developing and scaling supplier-quality and manufacturing processes for ocean-energy Node hardware with an accent on supplier qualification, manufacturability, and production readiness. Focus on applying APQP, PPAP, FAIR, and 8D methods, resolving complex metal-component quality issues, and building scalable quality systems across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon; travel to supplier and manufacturing locations may reach up to 50% of the work week. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $110,000–$155,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for suppliers producing Node hardware.
  • Resolve supplier, manufacturing, and quality issues affecting production schedules, cost, and product performance.
  • Lead supplier-quality and manufacturing-readiness activities from early design through production readiness.
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods and supplier capabilities for formed, cut, machined, welded, and assembled metal components.
  • Conduct design-for-manufacturing reviews and develop specifications, inspection criteria, control requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Qualify suppliers, conduct audits, analyze performance data, lead 8D root-cause investigations, and manage corrective actions through verified resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or a related STEM field.
  • At least five years of experience in supplier quality, supplier development, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, or comparable quality-management systems.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, FAIR, 8D, new product development, and production-part approval.
  • Technical knowledge of forming, cutting, machining, welding, assembly, and structural metals such as stainless or carbon steel.
  • Ability to develop processes and quality requirements independently, coordinate across technical teams, and travel up to 50% when required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with inspection strategies, sampling plans, process capability, or statistical quality controls.
  • Strong data analysis and supplier-performance reporting skills.
  • Experience with PLM, ERP, MES, or integrated manufacturing systems.
  • Experience industrializing complex hardware or working with marine, aerospace, automotive, energy, or other highly engineered products.
