Research Engineer, AI (Biology)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid); future anticipated locations include Redwood City, CA and New York City, NY.

Salary: $214,000–$375,000 annual base pay.

What you will do

• Build and advance AI systems for frontier biology research.
• Design model architectures and scale pre-training pipelines for biological foundation models.
• Develop post-training systems for biological discovery, including reinforcement learning, reward modeling, reasoning, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Design evaluation frameworks with scientists, grounding AI systems in biological outcomes and real-world impact.
• Contribute to publications, open-source releases, and collaborations with the wider scientific community.

Requirements

• Significant experience building and scaling deep learning systems, preferably in research-driven environments.
• Strong engineering and scientific fundamentals.
• Comfort with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and loosely defined research problems.
• Strong communication skills across technical and scientific audiences.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in New York, NY.
