TL;DR
GNC Engineer III (Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control): Developing and operating GNC systems, flight software, estimation algorithms, and high-fidelity simulations for spacecraft in LEO, GEO, and other orbit regimes with an accent on sensor fusion, control analysis, and hardware integration. Focus on implementing and validating algorithms through Monte Carlo, SIL, HIL, and on-orbit testing while solving commissioning, calibration, maneuver-planning, and anomaly-resolution challenges.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $115,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for space superiority and defense.

What you will do

  • Own GNC system development across architecture, algorithm design, verification, hardware integration, and on-orbit operations.
  • Design, test, and validate spacecraft flight software and embedded GNC algorithms for LEO, GEO, and other orbit regimes.
  • Develop attitude and orbit determination and estimation algorithms, including sensor fusion, Kalman filtering, and batch least-squares methods.
  • Evaluate GNC hardware such as reaction wheels, torque rods, thrusters, star trackers, sun sensors, IMUs, and RF or optical navigation sensors.
  • Build and improve high-fidelity six-degree-of-freedom simulation environments for SIL, HIL, and mission analysis.
  • Collaborate with avionics, propulsion, software, mission operations, and systems teams on integration, commissioning, calibration, maneuver planning, and anomaly resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of relevant GNC engineering experience in the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Strong knowledge of physics, spacecraft attitude dynamics, orbital mechanics, control systems, and software development principles.
  • Experience with C++ and/or Python for algorithm development, numerical methods, or simulation.
  • Experience or exposure to spacecraft sensors, actuators, state estimation, control laws, filtering methods, and simulation tools.
  • Must work onsite near Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA; U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or applicable ITAR authorization is required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • Experience with closed-loop control, orbital maneuvering, fault management, flight operations, and real-time console problem solving.
  • Experience with spaceflight physics simulations, GNC hardware testing, and line-of-sight performance analysis.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain a TS//SCI U.S. government security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) and parental leave.
  • Equity compensation.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary aerospace and defense engineering environment.
