What you will do

  • Lead qualification of core coatings through material selection, testing, vendor development, and scaling activities.
  • Source and evaluate coating materials and surface treatments for friction, wear, and self-welding performance.
  • Manage vendor contracts, specifications, statements of work, specimen procurement, and supplier performance.
  • Coordinate sodium testing and external material property testing, including neutron irradiation and mechanical testing.
  • Develop materials databases and provide material selection guidance for reactor development and licensing.
  • Prepare test plans, specifications, technical reports, scientific studies, and analyses of materials performance data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of related experience, Master’s degree with at least 3 years of related experience, or a PhD.
  • Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience developing specialized metallic and cermet coatings for extreme environments.
  • Thorough understanding of tribology and surface engineering in non-lubricated environments.
  • Experience producing technical documentation and solving challenging problems with minimal direction.
  • Applicants may be subject to U.S. Government export-control review and may need to provide U.S. citizenship, nationality, asylum, refugee, or lawful permanent resident status information.

Nice to have

  • Experience writing specifications for material procurement, fabrication, or testing.
  • Materials development, testing, and characterization experience in nuclear research or industry.
  • Experience with ASME NQA-1, AS9100, ISO 17025, or similar quality standards.
  • Proficiency with optical microscopy, microhardness, profilometry, and SEM.
