TL;DR
Senior Naval Architect (Marine Engineering): Designing and delivering the Node hull for long-duration deployment in harsh ocean conditions with an accent on stability, seakeeping, hydrodynamics, structural design, and fabrication readiness. Focus on performing first-principles hydrodynamic load investigations, developing marine operating requirements, and ensuring safe deployment and recovery at sea.

Location: Full-time, on-site in Portland, Oregon; relocation assistance is available if needed.

Salary: $185,000–$235,000 per year, plus company equity.

What you will do

  • Perform and maintain stability and weights and balances analyses using GHS and internal tools.
  • Develop and release Node structure drawings and detailed mechanical, structural, and support subsystem designs.
  • Define requirements for stability, seakeeping, mooring, structures, and marine operations.
  • Lead multidisciplinary investigations into hydrodynamic loads and contribute to OrcaFlex analyses and hydrodynamic studies.
  • Develop strategies for corrosion mitigation and biofouling prevention.
  • Work with Marine Operations Engineering, regulators, insurers, surveyors, fabricators, and vendors to support safe deployment, recovery, and fabrication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of professional naval architecture experience performing stability, seakeeping, and weights and balances analyses.
  • Professional experience with GHS or equivalent vessel stability software such as Maxsurf or Orca3D.
  • Professional experience with parametric CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks for parts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to guide engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects forward in a collaborative environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with RANS tools, advanced hydrodynamics software, OrcaFlex, finite element analysis, or marine regulatory and classification projects.
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Rhino3D, Python, Julia, MATLAB, or 3D CAD modeling.
  • Experience working with marine vessels, using hand calculations, or applying AI tools to programming and analysis workflows.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with curiosity and a focus on continuous improvement.
