Japan Analyst

What you will do

• Conduct fundamental research on Japanese equities across sectors, assessing business models, competitive positioning, risks, and valuation.
• Build and maintain detailed financial models and monitor macroeconomic, industry, and regulatory developments affecting Japanese markets.
• Analyze Japanese-language earnings releases, investor presentations, filings, news, and broker research.
• Prepare investment memos, research notes, and internal presentations for portfolio managers.
• Participate in earnings calls, translate and summarize key takeaways, and track company guidance against market expectations.
• Engage with company IR teams and management in Japanese while supporting portfolio construction, performance attribution, position monitoring, and catalyst tracking.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience in equity research, asset management, hedge funds, investment banking, or a related buy-side or sell-side role with Japan exposure.
• Strong research, financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills.
• Undergraduate degree required, preferably in finance, commerce, or business administration.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative, judgment, and professionalism.
• Ability to collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders; native Japanese proficiency is preferred.
