TL;DR
Materials & Polymers Domain Specialist (Materials Informatics): Owns the delivery and scientific quality of engineering-polymer data curation programs, connecting curated patent and literature data to ontology, extraction, indexing, and search teams with an accent on polymer structure interpretation, formulation analysis, and evidence-backed data quality. Focus on adjudicating complex Markush structures, repeat units, polymer architectures, composition tables, and measured properties while designing sampling-based QC and evaluating AI/ML extraction outputs.

Location: Singapore; on-site

Company

hirify.global builds evidence-backed materials datasets extracted from patents and scientific literature and connects them to ontology, extraction, indexing, and search products.

What you will do

  • Run the engineering-polymer curation program, including annotation guidelines, calibration, delivery schedules, acceptance criteria, vendor relationships, and reporting.
  • Design and execute sampling-based quality control using gold-standard adjudication, inter-annotator agreement, precision, coverage, and independent review of difficult cases.
  • Evaluate AI/ML pre-annotation and extraction outputs against curated gold standards and improve guidelines and dictionary rules through error analysis.
  • Manage evidence, composition, and normalization-dictionary data contracts and coordinate ontology-gap resolution.
  • Translate curated material relationships into indexing and multi-hop search capabilities while maintaining query benchmarks.
  • Apply delivery and quality-control practices to additional materials extraction, indexing, and search projects.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in polymer science, chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong command of polymer structures and representations, including repeat structural units, Markush structures, polymer architectures, formulations, compositions, and property-to-sample binding.
  • Hands-on formulation, synthesis, or characterization experience, or equivalent scientific judgment demonstrated through relevant patent examples.
  • Experience managing quality through structured processes such as GLP/ISO systems, audit readiness, review workflows, or sampling-based data QC.
  • Experience managing projects, teams, or external partners against defined deliverables, schedules, and acceptance criteria.

Nice to have

  • Applied AI/ML literacy, including extraction-output evaluation, error analysis, precision/recall, or AI-assisted annotation workflows.
  • Experience managing outsourced or distributed annotation or curation teams.
  • Knowledge-graph, ontology, entity-resolution, information-retrieval, or search-relevance evaluation experience.
  • Scripting ability in Python or a similar language for validation, sampling, and QC automation.
  • Cheminformatics experience with structure representations, SMILES/InChI, or structure normalization.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on scientific role with responsibility for final scientific judgments on curated polymer data.
  • Training provided in curation operations, data contracts, hirify.global Materials Ontology, patent data conventions, knowledge graphs, and search evaluation.
  • Collaboration with internal and external data curators, ontology, extraction, search, product, and engineering teams.
  • Full-time, on-site work in Singapore.
