Principal Physics Algorithms Engineer (Semiconductor Inspection)

Location: San Jose, California, United States. Hybrid work environment with up to two days per week remote; up to 10% international travel, primarily within Asia.

Base annual salary: $226,600–$311,575.

What you will do

• Lead physics-based modeling and simulation for SEM image formation, electron-beam interactions, voltage contrast, and related phenomena.
• Define the architecture and technical direction of simulation frameworks for next-generation inspection algorithms.
• Partner with computer vision and machine learning teams to integrate physics-based methods with AI-driven solutions.
• Drive research, prototyping, and technology development for future inspection products.
• Translate complex physical phenomena into scalable, production-quality software and influence technology roadmaps across engineering organizations.
• Lead junior engineers and promote technical excellence.

Requirements

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience developing advanced algorithms, simulation technologies, or computational modeling solutions.
• Technical leadership experience and a record of driving innovation from concept through product deployment.
• Experience influencing technical direction across multiple projects or teams.
• Experience with physics-based modeling, computer vision, image processing, machine learning, AI, high-performance computing, GPU acceleration, and numerical optimization.
• Proficiency in C++, CUDA, Python, scientific computing, and large-scale algorithm development.
