Senior Backend Engineer (L5) - Banking (Fintech)

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the banking core, including ledgers, payouts, reconciliation, and settlement.
• Lead architecture reviews for new financial systems and high-risk changes where correctness and auditability are critical.
• Define standards for money-handling code, including idempotency, consistency guarantees, audit trails, and safe data migrations.
• Design shared banking foundations and reduce systemic technical debt through reusable tooling.
• Own reliability and observability for money flows and lead incident response.
• Mentor senior engineers and partner with product, finance, compliance, and risk teams.

Requirements

• Significant senior- or staff-level backend engineering experience owning complex production systems.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and reliability, performance, and scalability trade-offs.
• Strong judgment around correctness under failure, including retries, idempotency, and critical data handling.
• Excellent technical communication and the ability to lead cross-team initiatives without formal authority.
• Fluency in a modern TypeScript and Node backend stack and cloud infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating a production double-entry ledger.
• Experience with payout or payment systems, including multi-rail, multi-currency, FX, and payment lifecycle modelling.
• Experience with durable workflow or orchestration engines for long-running processes.
• Observability experience on financial or other high-stakes flows.
• Fintech or financial services experience involving regulatory complexity.
