Software Engineer III — Developer Portal (Java/React)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; onsite five days per week

What you will do

• Build self-service Developer Portal features for application registration, identity configuration, sandbox testing, and production launch.
• Design and implement backend services, REST APIs, database schemas, and frontend integrations.
• Own API contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, and OpenAPI documentation.
• Develop authentication and authorization capabilities involving OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise SSO, multi-tenant authorization, and identity-aware application provisioning.
• Ship customer-facing features using the Next.js, React, and TypeScript frontend platform.
• Coordinate with Product, Design, Architecture, Identity, Organizations, Authorization, and Platform Engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend services.
• Strong experience with backend services and REST APIs using Java with Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or a similar framework.
• Deep experience with relational databases, complex SQL, and safe production schema migrations.
• Working proficiency with TypeScript and React, plus familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or related identity standards.
• Experience independently driving technical initiatives through production, coordinating across teams, and using AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer portals, API platforms, authentication platforms, cloud platforms, payments platforms, or other self-service developer experiences.
• Production experience with Java 21+, Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Next.js, or micro-frontend architectures.
• Knowledge of SAML 2.0, SCIM, relationship-based authorization, policy engines, OpenAPI tooling, or SDK generation.
• Familiarity with identity verification, fraud prevention, KYC/AML, NIST 800-63 guidelines, Google Cloud Platform, observability, and automated testing.
• Startup or high-growth company experience.
