Staff Software Engineer - IAM, Cloud Platform (IAM)

Location: Onsite or hybrid at the office in Bothell, Washington, United States

Salary: $174,520–$228,492 base annually, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and architecture for IAM and RBAC systems across multiple platform products.
• Design and standardize scalable RBAC, ABAC, and policy-based authorization models for enterprise use cases.
• Lead cross-team initiatives covering authentication, authorization, and identity lifecycle management.
• Make architectural decisions for role modeling, permission hierarchies, identity propagation, and service-to-service authorization.
• Serve as the final technical authority for IAM/RBAC design reviews and critical security decisions.
• Establish operational standards for permission rollouts, emergency access, monitoring, alerting, availability, performance, and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership and delivery of large-scale, mission-critical systems.
• 4+ years of expert-level experience designing, building, and operating IAM and RBAC systems in production at scale.
• Production experience implementing SAML 2.0 and expertise with backend programming in Go or JavaScript.
• Experience leading large-scale, cross-team technical projects related to identity, access control, or security platforms.
• Strong understanding of microservices, event-driven systems, data consistency patterns, technical communication, and autonomous execution. Access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. Person status or an applicable license or exception.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years writing microservices in Kubernetes environments.
• Experience with GCP and modernizing legacy authentication or authorization systems.
• Familiarity with least privilege, auditability, compliance constraints, high availability, low latency, and strict reliability SLOs.
• Open-source contributions, conference talks, or regular use of agent-based augmented coding.
