TL;DR
Lead Vehicle Design Engineer (Atmospheric Flight) (Aerospace Systems): Designing, developing, and delivering advanced aerospace vehicles from concept through flight with an accent on vehicle architecture, multidisciplinary engineering trades, and flight-ready hardware. Focus on integrating structures, thermal systems, avionics, manufacturing, testing, and operations while making technical decisions in ambiguous development environments.

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, California; candidates must be based in Los Angeles or willing to relocate there

Salary: $170,000–$195,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and deliver advanced aerospace systems from concept through flight.
  • Own vehicle systems, technical projects, and subsystems while contributing to vehicle architecture and system performance.
  • Perform engineering trades across structures, thermal systems, avionics, flight dynamics, manufacturing, testing, and operations.
  • Develop requirements, interface definitions, analysis plans, and verification approaches.
  • Lead hardware design, prototyping, integration, qualification, supplier engagement, and manufacturing activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, mission preparation, flight operations, and post-flight analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, robotics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience developing complex hardware, aerospace systems, spacecraft, launch vehicles, autonomous systems, robotics, or other highly integrated engineering products through design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Strong vehicle-level systems thinking and advanced engineering fundamentals with first-principles problem-solving ability.
  • Experience with engineering analysis, design tools, simulation environments, or hardware development workflows.
  • Ability to solve challenging technical problems, evaluate multidisciplinary tradeoffs, and make sound decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or otherwise eligible to access export-controlled information and technology.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, automotive, energy, or other high-performance engineering industries.
  • Experience with flight hardware, spacecraft, launch vehicles, atmospheric flight systems, autonomous systems, or advanced manufacturing platforms.
  • Systems engineering, testing, integration, rapid prototyping, design iteration, or hardware qualification experience.
  • Startup experience or experience building new products from the ground up.
