Financial Analyst III - Controller (Banking)

Location: Hybrid in Buffalo, New York, United States; requires 4 days per week in-office at One M&T Plaza. Sponsorship is not available, including for candidates requiring current or future sponsorship and F-1 visa holders with CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT.

Salary: $74,600–$124,400 annual USD.

What you will do

• Conduct technical research and prepare, analyze, and review financial, tax, regulatory, shareholder, Board, SEC, and internal management reports.
• Prepare complex financial schedules, reconciliations, variance analyses, general ledger entries, and data integrity tests.
• Resolve reporting problems, interpret data, draw conclusions, and ensure timely, accurate deliverables.
• Maintain compliance with GAAP, SEC disclosure requirements, bank regulatory requirements, internal controls, risk standards, and audit points.
• Review junior staff work, mentor and cross-train team members, and support shared workload objectives.
• Participate in special projects, process improvements, Finance and Bank training, and communication with business-line personnel and department management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an Associate’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in accounting, auditing, operations, or financial institutions.
• Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, and/or regulatory reporting concepts, business operations and/or bank products, and the banking industry.
• High-level proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
• Advanced problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask while prioritizing workload.

Nice to have

• Data visualization or data querying application experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Financial services industry experience.
