Product Engineer II - Configuration

Location: Hybrid in Libertyville, Illinois, United States.

What you will do

• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Sales Engineering, Project Management, client-facing teams, customers, vendors, Manufacturing Engineering, System Verification, Program Management, Account Coordinators, and Production Engineering on quotes, solution design, project delivery, and production support.
• Own bench-level configuration for enterprise servers, storage, and networking platforms from incoming inspection through final configuration sign-off.
• Develop and maintain configuration plans, port maps, IP addressing, VLAN assignments, logical connectivity, inventories, serial records, and as-built documentation.
• Perform initial power-on, firmware/BIOS/UEFI updates, hardware validation, and installation and configuration of Linux, Windows, hypervisors, and base software images.
• Develop and maintain golden images, automation scripts, configuration checklists, and documentation for repeatable builds; provide input to labor estimates and pre-sales assessments.
• Launch new solutions, research emerging technologies, conduct performance evaluations and benchmark testing, resolve advanced technical inquiries and compatibility issues, and mentor Product Engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and designing computer components into custom-built systems.
• 5+ years of experience building and designing enterprise-level networking, compute, and storage systems.
• 5+ years of experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
• 5+ years of experience creating and maintaining bills of materials (BOMs).
• 5+ years of experience configuring Dell, Supermicro, HPE, Lenovo, and Whitebox systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to collaborate with customers, technical resources, vendors, and team members.
• Ability to understand, gather, and document customer requirements.
• Expertise in engineering disciplines, revision control, engineering change management, product lifecycle management (PLM), and end-of-life (EOL) processes.
• Expertise in enterprise compute, storage, networking, PDU and rack hardware power, air and liquid cooling, build methodologies, cabling, connectivity, and build standards.
• Knowledge of x86 and ARM architectures, server hardware components, computer standards, quality control, and computer assembly methods.
• Expertise in enterprise Gen AI use cases and hardware used for core inference and training.
• Critical thinking, problem-solving, planning, organizational, risk management, and new product introduction (NPI) skills, including decision-making under pressure.
• Adaptability, resilience, attention to detail, and strong documentation skills.
