Staff Engineer - Java

Location: Hybrid in Barcelona, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, or Montevideo

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java applications and systems.
• Lead the architecture and design of scalable, high-performance Java-based projects.
• Build and evolve systems for payment routing, fraud decisioning, and anomaly detection.
• Optimize code, database queries, resource utilization, application stability, and system performance.
• Conduct validation and performance tests, identify bottlenecks, assess capacity, and prepare improvement reports.
• Collaborate with technology leaders and product teams, conduct code reviews, and guide technical decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or computer science.
• At least 7 years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong experience in Java application development, software architecture, object-oriented design, and design patterns.
• Experience with Spring, Hibernate, event-driven architecture, and the software development life cycle.
• Ability to solve complex software system issues and write clean, efficient, readable code.
• Upper-intermediate written and spoken English proficiency; strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP.
• Experience monitoring production applications with New Relic, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, CloudWatch, ELK, or similar telemetry and distributed logging tools.
