Staff Engineer (Configuration Management)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States. hirify.global Flex allows working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $110,000–$230,000

What you will do

• Design and architect enterprise-grade configuration management systems and platforms.
• Lead the development of configuration management tools, frameworks, reusable practices, and self-service capabilities.
• Define the technical roadmap and drive standards and adoption across engineering teams.
• Build automation for configuration deployment, validation, rollback, and infrastructure provisioning.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, observability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
• Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, application engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• Deep experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Extensive Linux and Windows administration experience, including operating system internals and command-line utilities.
• Experience with operating system hardening frameworks including CIS Benchmarks, NIST SP 800-53, DISA STIGs, or PCI DSS.
• Professional software development experience with Python, Go, TypeScript, or Java.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code tools.
• 6+ years of PaaS/IaaS development and Linux/Windows administration, 4+ years in system design and cloud services, and 2+ years with open-source frameworks.
