Senior Data Engineer (Databricks)

Location: United States — remote, or Omaha, Nebraska — hybrid

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and maintain a Databricks lakehouse using dbt and bronze, silver, and gold medallion architecture.
• Build ELT pipelines with Databricks, dbt, and Fivetran for SQL Server, Salesforce, MongoDB, Gong, OpenTelemetry, and vendor data.
• Lead migration away from BigQuery, Data Fusion, and Cloud Fusion, including refactoring pipelines and repointing Tableau.
• Improve reliability through replication, ingestion enhancements, auto-recovery, full-refresh jobs, watchdog orchestration, and monitoring.
• Build data quality checks, freshness metrics, access controls, governance policies, and privacy workflows for CCPA compliance.
• Define data contracts and documentation, develop curated data products, collaborate with stakeholders, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or data analytics.
• Experience leading a data platform migration from planning through delivery and ownership of deadlines and outcomes.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, dbt, SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Python, APIs, and large datasets.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL and ELT pipelines, medallion architecture, data testing, freshness monitoring, alerting, access controls, and governance.
• Experience supporting Data Science, ML, or AI teams, mentoring engineers, reviewing technical work, and influencing engineering standards.

Nice to have

• Previous experience at a B2B SaaS company.
• Experience with BigQuery, Snowflake, and Fivetran.
• Practical experience applying AI and evaluating emerging technologies.
